I have added a note to this post to help future readers with the same issue. The steps in this article should work for Edge on both Windows and macOS. I have had the same experience with Edge ignoring my customization and showing every category of news in its feed. It will not go to that particular area. I see content off but the option for turning it off never appears on screen. Can you provide your Edge version number?
